Hospital Corporation of America, founded in 1968 by Thomas Frist, Sr. and Thomas Frist, Jr., the father and brother of former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, respectively. Merged 1994 with Columbia Hospital, and was known as Columbia/HCA until 1999. Implicated in a large Medicare fraud in 1997, forcing the ouster of its CEO, Rick Scott. Acquired in 2006 by a private equity consortium including Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Bain Capital, and Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity.
The firm runs 200 hospitals, the largest chain in the United States.
