Electric utility in Texas. One of its many constituent companies was founded in 1882, the main company becoming Dallas Power & Light in 1917, merging in 1945 with two other companies to become Texas Utilities Company under a holding company, making the arrangement final with a real merger in 1984. The name TXU was adopted in 1999.

Acquired by a consortium of equity investors including Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Texas Pacific Group and Goldman Sachs in 2007, and renamed Energy Future Holdings.
