Founded 1879 as Pacific Coast Oil Company. Merged with Standard Oil of Iowa in 1906 and renamed Standard Oil (California), aka "SoCal". Merged with Pacific Oil Company in 1926 and renamed Standard Oil Company of California. Merged with Gulf Oil in 1984 and renamed Chevron Corporation. Merged with Texaco in 2001 and renamed Chevron Texaco. In 2005, Chevron Texaco switched back to using the name Chevron alone.
