COMPANY
Koch Industries (pronounced Coke), the largest privately-held oil company in the United States, has frequently been taken to task for its environmental infractions. In September 2000, the United States government brought a 97-count indictment against the company; after the inauguration of George W. Bush, the number of counts dropped from 97 to 9; two more charges were dropped in March, and the case was finally settled by the Justice Department two days before it would have gone to trial.

Also controls subsidiaries in the chemical, fertilizer, gas, pipeline, and wood products industries.
