EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION

Founded 1907 as East Carolina Teachers Training School, to train "young white men and women." Renamed East Carolina Teachers College in 1921, East Carolina College in 1951, East Carolina University in 1967. It was incorporated into the University of North Carolina System on 1 July 1972.
