Night Crossing (1981)

REVIEWS Review by Malcolm Cook (posted on 24-Oct-2007) I first saw Night Crossing as a television movie and had it recorded on video. Some years later I was delighted to acquire a copy on DVD.
I lived in West Berlin in 1967 and often crossed over into East Berlin out of curiosity. On one occasion, a friend purchased blocks of ten DDR postage stamps which resulted in us being arrested as 'smugglers' on our return at Checkpoint Charlie. It turned out you could only export a maximum of five DDR stamps!
The true escape from East to West Germany as depicted in Night Crossing often makes me wonder if, knowing the consequences, I would've had the guts to try myself?
Apart from the excellent story, one of my favourite actresses of all time, Kay Walsh, had a short part in the film.
If you haven't seen Night Crossing do so, the courage of the true escapers deserves applause and recognition.
Do you know something we don't?
