The Black Swan (23-Dec-1942)
Director: Henry King Writers: Ben Hecht; Seton I. Miller From novel by: Rafael Sabatini Keywords: Action/Adventure, Swashbuckling The notorious Henry Morgan receives a royal pardon and is installed as Governor of Jamaica, replacing a corrupt Lord Denby. Morgan ends privateering by offering legitimization, but Capt. Billy Leech and the crew of The Black Swan refuse that offer, mounting suspiciously successful attacks and fleeing to Maracaibo. Standing accused of collusion, Morgan asks his friend Jamie Waring find Leech and return him to Jamaica. Considerable time is spent on a romantic subplot involving Jamie and Denby's daughter. Talky at times; starts off slow. Won Oscar for Best Color Cinematography; received nominations for Best Special Effects and Best Dramatic Score.
