REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 30-Dec-2006) I saw this film as a boy and it changed my life. Before seeing it my goal in life was to be a Green Beret soldier. This film made me realize for the first time that enemy soldiers are humans with the same wants, needs, family concerns that we have. Before seeing this film, I had a naive boy's sense of being a soldier, and the enemy was totally impersonal. I would recommend this film to everyone, and would love to see it again myself if I could find it.
Review by anonymous (posted on 26-Jun-2006) This film is
strongly anti-NAZI in both content and delivery. It is secondarily
anti-war. It promotes a common theme in war films of this period, a
focus on lower ranking soldiers placed in difficult circumstances and
confronted by moral decisions on a regular basis. The inner conflict is
virtually identical to that portrayed in many World War II movies; that
of national and personal loyalties in conflict with religious and
humanist teachings about right and wrong. I would recommend this film
for high school age and over. Similar themes are found in such films as
THE YOUNG LIONS, CROSS OF IRON, and several other movies which deal
with WW II from the German perspective.
