Dev Saran (Shahrukh Khan) is a proffesional football player who is married to Rhea (Preity Zinta), a fashion designer. They have a son, Arjun and living with them is Dev's mother, Kamaljeet (Kirron Kher). One day, Dev comes across Maya (Rani Mukherji) who is just about to get married. As he sits down next to her, he tells her about how he and Rhea met up and how their friendship blossomed into love. Maya tells Dev about the reason why she's getting married. After the talk, they part and Dev meets with an accident and gets a permanant leg fracture so therefore can no longer play football. 4 years later... Dev has changed completely- he has developed a bad mood which makes his marriage start to turn ugly. Maya is now married to Rishi Talwar (Abhishek Bachan) and isn't at all happy but happy or not happy, the two share a special connection with Samarjit Sing aka Sam (Amitabh Bachan) Rishi's father. Soon, Dev and Maya meet again and begin to see the faliure in each other's marriages. They decide to try and help each other in saving their marriages. But will their plan work? Will they both end up being happy in their marriages.
