REVIEWS

Review by Anthony Rimell (posted on 4-Sep-2007)

Witty and funny in its day, it is still a significantly superior movie to the Eddie Murhpy remake. For starters' Lewis did not need a fat suit make-over to make the professor both funny and sad! Aspects of the movie will quickly seem dated to anyone who watches it in 2007 (especially smoking as a sign of 'cool'). Yet like all classics, there is a timelessness about the story that quickly rises above the quirks that inevitable appear after over 40 years. Rent it, enjoy it, and see the magic of slapstick from another time.

This movie is a corny and outdated early 60's movie that was enjoyable when it came out and still has a certain charm today. Jerry Lewis is a hoot as a Dean Martin type cool cat and Stella Stevens is always easy to look at. The film has that curiously timely debate about whether sports in college detracts from education. Nothin lavish about the point and shoot filming, still my kids laughed many times throughout, mostly because Jerry Lewis can actually be funny and interesting when he's playing it serious. If you haven't seen it - worth a look. If you saw it long ago, it will remind you of the 60's.
