REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 18-Apr-2006) I was Jan-Michael's stand-in
and photo double for this film. At the time we all thought it was
pretty cheesy and sadly that is a pretty accurate diagnosis. The
special effects don't hold up by today's standards and they didn't even
at the time. I remember Jan saying at one point that the only thing
left from the script he had signed on to do, was the car chase. All
that aside, Jan is great in the film, he was on a roll at that time
with three or four very good performances in Buster and Billie, White
Line Fever and Baby Blue Marine. Shadow of the Hawk also included in
the cast, Marylin Hassett who had just scored big with The Other Side
of The Mountain and of course the great Chief Dan George who later
starred with Clint eastwood in The Outlaw Josie Wales. Although Shadow
is at best implausible, it does have its moments (see the car running
into the invisible wall) and it is a window into three movie careers in
transition. It was shot entirely in and around Vancouver (in those days
a big deal) and the scenery is beautiful. For me it is nostalgic to
watch. It was a great experience for a young actor and Jan was a great
and generous guy.
