Glory Road (13-Jan-2006)
Director: James Gartner Writers: Chris Cleveland; Bettina Gilois Keywords: Drama, Basketball Sports drama tells the tale of the first all-black starting lineup to appear in NCAA college basketball's national championship game.
ABSTRACT Don Haskins, coach of Texas Western University's Fighting Miners college basketball team, made waves when he recruited a majority-black squad -- featuring an all-black starting lineup -- for the 1965-66 season. The Fighting Miners, noted for their flamboyant showmanship on the court and refusal to bow to the Jim Crow-era pressures of the time, faced immense scrutiny and ridicule over the course of their historic season; against all odds, Haskins led the underdog Fighting Miners to an appearance in the national championship game against hegemonic Kentucky, a story dramatized for the silver screen in Glory Road.
