I loved this book when I was a teenager, and the movie was a very good depiction of the novel. It is unfortunate that the character Kate refused to amputate her leg, she may have lived to see her daughter grow up. But at the time, she did what she felt was right. Very sad story about a very young wife and mother, tough life, tough death, but lots of reasons to have loved inspire of everything.
