ABSTRACT Jennifer Lawrence's big break comes in the form of The Hunger Games, a chilling big-budget dystopian thriller about a future in which parts of a post-apocalyptic North America are forced to atone for a past rebellion against a wealthy Capitol by sending forth teenagers to fight to the death in a televised spectacle called the Hunger Games. Lawrence's role comes in the form of Katniss Everdeen, a young woman who decides to take the place of her sister in one such fight. The Hunger Games was largely seen as a cautionary tale of what may happen if our reality-television-obsessed culture goes on.
