REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 8-Jun-2006) For more
than 10 years I have believed that this movie, and the event on which it
is loosely based, is one of the most important cultural artifacts of
recent times. What the Rosetta stone was to ancient cultures, this movie
is what you have to see to explain Dallas. Since Dallas is now the
USA, let's just pretend I am one of those French intellectual
snobs, instead of a person who was in Dallas on the day of the tragedy.
First of all, all the children who drowned were obese. Child obesity is
now recognized as a major health problem but not in 1987 Dallas. During
the rescue efforts a local TV network was interfering with the ability
of rescue vehicles to communicate. This problem surfaces in New Orleans
(during the floods). None of the drivers who took the kids into the
wall of water was licenced. Turns out the all over the US there are
accidents because Bible camps and Bible Schools can fill a school bus
full of kids and have a driver who has no license. It is legal. Freedom
of the press says that even though the first vehicle on the scene was a
TV helicopter, there is no law obliging them to save kids from drowning.
The religious right champions this film like it was THE BIBLE. Which
gives me the right to point out that far from being heroes, the adults
involved have plenty of to be embarrased and guilty.
Do you know something we don't?
