ABSTRACT Adapted from the acclaimed series of graphic novels of the same name, Persepolis is the semi-autobiographical story of Marjane Satrapi's life during and after 1979's Iranian Revolution, following the gifted young woman and her liberal family as joy over the repressive Shah of Iran's fall from power turns to horror when Islamic fundamentalists bent on pushing their own totalitarian agenda take control in the aftermath of his overthrow. Sent to study in Vienna, Marjane finds herself unable to adjust to life in Europe as her homeland slides further into theocracy. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
