The Village (26-Jul-2004)
Director: M. Night Shyamalan Writer: M. Night Shyamalan Keywords: Thriller M. Night Shyamalan thriller depicts an isolated village's troubled truce with mysterious creatures lurking in a nearby forest and the ordeal that follows.
ABSTRACT Deep in late-19th century rural Pennsylvania rests an isolated village populated by inhabitants living in constant fear of unseen creatures said to thrive in a neighboring forest. Referred to as "Those We Don't Speak Of", the creatures are explained as maintaining a truce with the locals that sees them spared from destruction in exchange for a refusal to venture into the woods; all hell breaks loose, however, when Ivy, the blind daughter of a village elder, sets out on a journey into the forest and uncovers disquieting truths about the community's existence. A compelling plot hamstrung by accusations of plagiarism, less-than-ideal acting, and a final twist all too endemic of Shyamalan's films make this a disappointment far removed from his earlier efforts.
