Bennett Marco, a former Major in the U.S. Army troubled by mental illness and doubt about events surrounding his old unit ever since a Gulf War mission that saw subordinate Raymond Shaw transformed into a war hero, finds his problems coming to a head following a conversation with deranged ex-Corporal Al Melvin in a near-future America where now-Congressman Shaw is his party's candidate for Vice President. Implants discovered by Marco in his own body and Shaw's lead to the discovery of a terrifying mind control conspiracy involving weapons manufacturer Manchurian Global, one our fragmented protagonist must somehow work to stop before his nation is plunged into irreversible chaos.
