Bride and Prejudice (6-Oct-2004)
Director: Gurinder Chadha Writers: Paul Mayeda Berges; Gurinder Chadha From novel: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Keywords: Musical, Romantic Comedy Four daughters of the Bakshi family have come of age and are ready to be married off to eligible bachelors. Balraj Bingley and his American friend, Will Darcy, attend a wedding in Amritsar. Bingley falls for daughter Jaya, and Darcy for daughter Lalita. Darcy, however, says something that offends Lalita greatly. Bollywood treatment of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice which is surprisingly true to the novel, though this is English and not a product of Bollywood. Social comedy and a musical, it is preachy at times and sometimes things don't click; but on the whole, enjoyable.
