I found this to be an outstanding Military Movie with Comedy and Action as well. I have a VHS copy I taped off of TV. It isn't a very quality copy, but better than nothing. I have tried to find it on DVD, but no luck so far. The movie has a good plot,The boot camp is realistic, and I rank this up with other movies like, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Hamburger Hill, and Heartbreak Ridge. Not a typical, "Hollywood Action Movie", but that is what makes this stand out, unique in it's own way. I am surprised Boys in CO. C isn't played on cable TV or available to rent at the video store. People don't know what they are missing! I still can't understand why this movie isn't aired or available on DVD? I know they pick on homosexuals alot in the movie or slander them in some way shape or form... who cares, play the movie! Things are so politically correct these days, so I best watch my oponion. So in conclusion, the movie kicks ass and then some!! If your looking for some good motivation or are a veteran who wants to get a good dose of the good old days, well then this is the movie for you. If you are some kind of "girlie man" well then I am sorry pal, yah better watch the show FRIENDS!!!!

When this movie first came out in the late seventies, it made the line-up on ON Subscription TV. I must have watched it ten times in the Winter of 1978. Great charactorizations from R Lee Ermey, Stan Shaw, Andrew Stevens and especially the actor who played the Hispanic D.I. while the recruits were in Boot Camp. I'll have to research his name. In my opinion, this movie made R Lee. Ermey. He's always played hard-ass D.I types, but he peaked in this flick. As far as I'm concerned, his performance in Full Metal Jacket was anti-climactic. He got it perfect the first time in this movie.

You would be hard-pressed to refute the argument that THIS movie was the "original" Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) It is the pattern that gives it away. Step 1 - Show troubled, smart-assed youth entering Basic Training. Step 2 - Show them evolving as a "unit" and devolving as "self." Step 3 - Show their trials in Vietnam. This movie, though lower budget than FMJ, is a MUST SEE. The viewer and any appreciative movie dialogue fan will savor the soundbites throughout this ride through hell. War sucks and sometimes your Commander sucks too.
