Is Anybody There? (7-Sep-2008)
Director: John Crowley Writer: Peter Harness Music by: Joby Talbot Producers: David Heyman; Marc Turtletaub; Peter Saraf Keywords: Drama Plodding drama about a boy with a weird upbringing. To make ends meet, his parents rent out rooms to old people in a sort of hospice situation, to the detriment of everyone's sanity. An old, failed magician, played by Michael Caine, moves in, but it seems that even he has some growing up to do. Most interesting detail: the boy is interested in hauntings and electronic voice phenomena, and listens to long recordings made in secret under the beds of these wheezing, bedridden oldsters, in hopes of picking up the accidental voice of some unquiet spirit -- he should have just listened to numbers stations on shortwave.
