REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 16-Apr-2005) "Clownhouse" was my first attempt at doing
title pages. I was so proud that it won an amature short subject
contest. One of the judges was Francis Ford Coppola. To Victor Salva's
credit, he was able to enlist the help of his friends to make this film
with a budget of $210. and a lot of effort. The movie speaks for its
self. It is both scary and entertaining because it was masterfully
written and executed with amature actors. Thank you for this
opportunity to speak out for a brilliant writer/director, Victor Salva.
Review by anonymous (posted on 19-Apr-2005) I saw this film at a friends sleepover for
her 15th birthday. There were quite a few of us tucked into our
sleeping bags in the darkened front room on a gloomy stormy night in
October. Up to that point I'd probably seen some of the worst video
nasties of the 80s and emerged completely unscathed and indifferent to
anything 90s horrors had to offer. Quite simply this film freaked us
out -- I had to hold my friends hands and we were all screeching at
various points. Maybe it's because most of us hated clowns and thought
they were scary in their own right. It's a good film, very tense and
doesn't really end how it's supposed to -- we were all shocked when one
of the little boys ended up being hung from a tree -- the heroes,
especially when they're little boys in their pyjamas don't die! It's
been 13 years since we all sat around a little TV in our corner of
England slightly miffed that our friends mum had only got us a 15 rated
film. Every so often we'll talk about Clownhouse and how scary it was
and how we should rent it out from Blockbusters again for a bit of
reminiscing - and jumping out of our skins. However, it's no longer
available in the UK and I've only today read about the scandal
surrounding the director and one of the young male actors. I just want
to tell you it is a good film and genuinely creepy and clever, even
though since I was small I'd said a horror film about clowns would
freak me out! If you choose not to see it because of the scandal then
I'm totally behind you but if you do see it, you won't be disappointed.
Do you know something we don't?
