Quest for Fire (16-Dec-1981)
Original Title: La guerre du feu Director: Jean-Jacques Annaud Writer: Gérard Brach From novel: La guerre du feu by J. H. Rosny Keywords: Action/Adventure, Cavemen
REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 1-Aug-2006) This is a prehistoric story which
succeeds in being realistic. Three men who have lost their domestic
fire after a skirmish, and lacking the technology to re-create it, are
befriended by a girl from another tribe. I bought the DVD after
learning that the soundtrack was in re-constructed proto-indo-european
language. So I was sorry to hear so little speech but was gripped by
the story. The actors were well coached in primitive body-language and
the young Rae Dawn Chong made a credible mud-clad nymph. The extra
features are worth hearing.
Review by anonymous (posted on 25-Mar-2006) This movie has some fine acting,
especially by Rae Dawn Chong. Ron Perlman is hilarious by times, as are
his two fire-seeking companions. It is well directed and visually
captivating. Some of the camera work could have been a little better,
but it wasn't too bad. The story is unique and has some fascinating
moments, for example the part with the mammoths.
Review by Richard Conner (posted on 22-Aug-2007) Ron Perlman's first of many films, this is one of the most unusual you will ever see. Beautifully photographed, featuring dialog which sounds like nothing you understand, but you learn to at least a little, the movie depicts the struggles of a clan of cavepeople types as the struggle to survive, moving about in the most desolate of conditions. We quickly learn the protection of their repository of fire is paramount to their existence. Interrelationships emerge, realistic battles with man and beast are depicted, and the costumes and acting by a very good cast is engrossing. Well worth a watch, and a movie the viewer will not forget.
