REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 7-Mar-2006) Another exercise in foul taste by
John Waters, this time charting the life and wild times of an obese
problem child (Divine) who hates her parents, hates school, goes on the
run, gets raped by a horny trucker (also played by Divine, who dresses
as a man in this role and gives rise to the memorable line "go f**k
yourself"!) and winds up living with a degenerate boyfriend and an
illegitimate daughter (Mink Stole) before being 'discovered' by a pair
of fashionistas who want to take their warped 'crime is beauty' ethic
to an extreme. Hilariously bitter dialogue abounds, there's
jaw-dropping (and gut-churning) insanity to spare and some of the worst
amateur acting and technical credits you'll ever see, but when the
result is a film as recklessly vibrant and entertainingly sleazy as
this, you can forgive the numerous shortcomings and concentrate on the
car-wreck fascination of Waters' insane private universe. NOT suitable
for children or grandparents!
