Afternoon of a Faun: Tanaquil Le Clercq (30-Sep-2013)
Director: Nancy Buirski Writer: Nancy Buirski Keywords: Documentary, Ballet, Biography Biographical drama traces the life and career of ballerina Tanaquil Le Clercq.
ABSTRACT Tanaquil Le Clercq, a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet towards the middle of the twentieth century whose physique and charisma formed an archetype that subsequent noted ballerinas would seek to emulate, enjoyed a career as one of the greatest and brightest stars of her era until she became paralyzed by polio out of nowhere on a tour through Europe, never to dance again. Her story receives a screen treatment in the critically-acclaimed biopic Afternoon of a Faun, following the late French-American dancer from promising beginnings through to a spectacular peak and unfortunate end.
