ABSTRACT Franklin D. Roosevelt, the thirty-second President of the United States and a man gripped by illness halfway through his second term, reconnected with distant cousin Margaret "Daisy" Suckley in 1939 at his country estate in New York on the advice of mother Sara. The pair struck up a casual relationship that ultimately blossomed into a secret romance, a flame seeing the President through some of the toughest years of his administration as World War II loomed large on the horizon and dramatized in Hyde Park on Hudson.
