REVIEWS Review by Anonymous (posted on 15-Sep-2007) Saw this film years ago and have not forgotten it. Would love to find a copy on DVD (or cassette) but, as it was a made-for-TV movie... it looks like I'll have to wait until it happens to be shown again.
The story of Winnie, sent to an institution for the mentally retarded at the age of 6 (in the 1930s)... who spends her years there proving (by writing a book) that she is not retarded. It's a moving film, but not cloying or overly sentimental... Highly recommended.
Review by Kyran Geraghty (posted on 1-Sep-2007) Unquestionably the most beautifully moving account of a young woman's
struggle to demonstrate and to prove her "sanity" and the performance
by Meredith Baxter Brought tears to this middle-aged man's eyes. Truly
magnificent and worthy of MANY Oscars!! Shame that I had to wait until
late 2007 to see this great movie on a Free-view channel. I hope I can
source a copy of the movie on DVD.
Do you know something we don't?
