Tracks two British families, the aristocratic Marryots and their servants, the Bridges, from 1899 to 1933. Events include the Boer War in South Africa, the death of Britain's longest-reigning monarch, Queen Victoria, the sinking of the Titanic, the Great War, and the Jazz Age. During this time, the class system is in decline. Much of the film is now dated. Won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Art Direction; received an additional nomination for Best Actress.
