CAST REVIEWS Review by Eddy (posted on 4-Mar-2005) I'm giving this movie four stars not because its a great film but for just the opposite reason. It is however one of those films so bad that its great and has a huge cult following in existence. It is funny where it shouldn't be and lots of the acting is less than admirable. But you can't watch it like you would a Gone With The Wind but rather a Rocky Horror Picture Show. Then and only then can you appreciate "Valley Of The Dolls." Let's face it author Jacqueline Susann (who's got a bit part in the film as a reporter) left the premiere in tears she was so upset with it. Patty Duke is poorly miscast as Neely O'Hara and you never do believe that snotty and poor behaved Neely could be the big star the film states. Barbara Parkins is lovely and ill-fated Sharon Tate even lovelier and it's perhaps Tate's portrayal of Jennifer North that deserves the only accolades in acting. Orginally cast as Helen Lawson was Judy Garland who by this time was too sick to finish the project (thank God her career didn't end with this movie) so Susan Hayward was called in to replace her. Hayward over-plays Lawson but it absolutely adds to the campy feel of the film. Best part... the theme song which is sung by Dionne Warwick. I never hear it without thinking of Sharon Tate's horrible murder two years later by followers of Charles Manson...
Review by Sean (posted on 8-Feb-2005) This is a four star movie! Sharon Tate is wonderful as Jennifer North and deserved the Golden Globe for this film (Not the fearless vampire killers as this web site has stated.) Patty Duke is perfect for the role of Neely O'Hara. She deserved an oscar nomination. If anyone thinks that this movie is overdone, than they are crazy. And to those who think that the scene with Neely and Tony is funny I have one thing to say to them: You are an idiot! The man has Huntington's disease for petes sake! The only thing he can remember is his music and you find that funny! This is a must see.
