CAST REVIEWS Review by Stan McConnell (posted on 25-Jun-2007) It has been 50 years since I saw this film, but it still stands tall in my memory as the Best-Worst movie of all time. The plot was ridiculous, yet the actors were so sincere in their parts that it almost seemed believable; Lee Marvin in the final scenes especially stands out, and one wonders what he actually thought about this whole thing. This definitely should be a cult favorite!
The rating on this review is not really accurate, because this review form only allows for a single star-rating ... it does not adequately capture my Best-Worst classification.
Review by anonymous (posted on 27-Nov-2006) I first saw this movie decades ago on television. It's a stupid movie, but I adore it, mainly for its cast which incudes a favorite actor (Frank Lovejoy) and a notable appearance in a supporting role by someone who later became quite famous (Lee Marvin). This movie, I understand, has quite a cult following and has been described as something best watched while under the influence, but I have always watched it soberly and yet with an idiotic grin plastered across my face. The plot is hare-brained but strangely hypnotic and doesn't translate well in written description. Watch the movie and make up your own mind. I must confess that I waited breathlessly for its release on dvd and now have it in my quirky collection. Filmed in black and white, the movie does manage to acquire a noirish atmosphere, filmed in California, mainly in one set and on some nameless beach. Since seeing this movie, I have always dreamed of taking a road trip along the California coast on Highway 101.
