ABSTRACT
A nameless Russian-Jewish father departs his village for the United States, promising to retrieve daughter Fegele at his earliest convenience; anti-Jewish sentiment forces Fegele to flee without her father's help, relocating to England to be adopted by a family rechristening her "Suzie". Years later, Suzie, now a successful Paris-based nightclub singer, travels to America in search of her father, falling in love with a gypsy along the way; their relationship, and her journey to the United States, is tested when the Nazis arrive at French shores.
