years-literally years-however the essential resonances of the film stay
with you like the more permeable memories of your own experiences...the
film is terribly haunting, it is woven of an exquistie tenderness that
stands in stark contrast to the common and ugly character of
people. The lead actors are heartbreaking and credible, and the film's
climax imposes a forlorn weight upon the viewer. In my case that
weight did not diminish with time.
Review by T. Butler (posted on 6-Sep-2005) Buster and Billie is one of those rare, essential films, not unlike Closely Watched Trains or High Sierra. It deals in archtypes as timeless as the fated children in Romeo and Juliet, and the dark underpinnings of the pack-mentality in Blackboard Jungle.
It is a tragedy, bathed in drama; nailed together by Joan Goodfellow's wonderful performance as the poverty stricken, ill fated country girl, and possibly the only truly fine dramatic performance ever given by Jan Michael Vincent, as her socially converted knight in shining armor. See it and you will not forget it.
Review by C.Hash (posted on 25-Jan-2008) I'm 51 years old. I saw this movie in the 70's. It has haunted me ever since. Almost like it touched my soul. The acting was so good and the storyline is exactly that of a small town and a teenage girl who just wanted to fit it, be accepted, be loved. This story could be seen today and it would "fit". Some things about growing up never change.
