ABSTRACT
Julie Powell, a writer working at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation call center in the contentious aftermath of September 11, decides to spend her time away from work cooking every recipe in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in a year, documenting her progress in an online blog. Julie's endeavor and unlikely rise to minor celebrity after the New York Times runs a story on her blog is juxtaposed with an account of Child's career leading up to the publication of her first book, covering her relationship with her husband, time spent as an American in post-war France, and initial difficulty finding a publisher.
