REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 14-May-2006) This the most cruel version of
seduction in an imaginary world of glitter and glammer. The dialogues
between Glenn Close (Marquise de Merteuil) and John Malkovich (Vicomte
de Valmont) are absolutly cutting on the edge of morality of that time.
You can so enjoy the expressions of Mrs. Close and Mr. Malkovich during
the movie while they dare the entire society into there seduction
games. Whilst in the beginning, working as partners when Valmont has to
seduce Cecile de Volange, the bride to be of the Marquise's ex-husband,
this evolves in a "war" between the former partners. The end was so
satisfactory, when the Marquise entered the opera and is 'boooed' out
by the entire auditorium, this is the end of her cruel games and the
end of her life in the society. The devilness and cruelty of the
Marquise and the vicomte, the innosence of Cecile (Uma Thurman), the
purity of Mdme de Tourvel (Michelle Pfeiffer) and the meddling mother
of Cecile, Mdme De Volanges (Swoosie Kurtz) make of this movie
something you must see. Watch with your own eyes how cruel people can
amuse themselves by letting other moral people betray themselves in a
society where respect and morality are high standards. If you did not
see this, get up and buy or hire this at one!
