ABSTRACT Eric Lomax, an Allied prisoner of war forced to perform work on the Empire of Japan's notorious "Death Railway" connecting Burma and Thailand in World War II, finds himself traumatized by visions of his torment years after his liberation and war's end. When Eric's love of his life, Patti, a woman he'd met on a train some years after the war, finds out that the Japanese officer responsible for his torture remains alive and well, she faces a personal struggle in which she must decide whether or not a re-engagement with one of his old demons is in his fragile mind's best interests.
