REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 3-Jun-2005) Expecting another campy attempt at "comic
book realism" I prepared by lining up plenty of alternative
entertainment for when it turned too phoney. My gameboy, a novel I'm
reading, and a bottle of particularly cheap booze. Turns out I didn't
need any of it. From the first screen I was hooked. The plot, although
somewhat moth eaten in appearance, was much deeper than I'd
anticipated. Each character became a complete picture in a very short
time. Very little guessing as to what would motivate the actions they
perform. I was also very impressed by the actors non comic book like
dialog. There is no wooden acting in this film. There is, however, a
disturbing tendency to allow the viewer to guess the logical
progression of things. Unfortunately, this is something we just won't
stop seeing, since hollywood is rapidly running out of good, or at
least original, ideas. All in all, I enjoyed HellBoy. I found it
entertaining and quite amusing. Perhaps Ron Perlmans best role yet.
Do you know something we don't?
