REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 6-Jan-2007) ...but only four stars if you're a Waits afficionado! Essentially a late-80's recording of Waits in concert, what it lacks in production it more than makes up for in Waits' manic delivery of a very small part of his huge reportoire - and not a single bad apple to ruin the barrel. Far from merely taking songs from his studio albums and reproducing them on stage, Waits makes - to varying degrees - changes in the music, the lyrics and every other aspect of all the performed songs. From the thundering opening of '16 Shells', through the joking introduction to 'Train Song', to the entirely appropriate finale of 'Time', Waits never fails to deliver. And if you're not overkeen on Tom, take a look at and have a listen to the truly incredible up-beat version of 'Telephone Call From Istanbul'. You won't regret it.
