Sports drama follows coach Jack Lengyel's efforts to keep Marshall University's football program afloat in the wake of a devastating plane crash.

ABSTRACT
A plane carrying seventy-five members of Marshall University's Thundering Herd football team, staff, and boosters heading back to West Virginia from a game in North Carolina crashes, killing everyone aboard. Marshall's president favors an indefinite suspension of football operations; facing protests, he reneges and hires upstart coach Jack Lengyel, who immediately goes to work transforming a ramshackle team of walk-on players into a force capable of repairing the bruised pride of Huntington, West Virginia.
