Shadow of the Vampire (15-May-2000)
Director: E. Elias Merhige Writer: Steven Katz Music: Dan Jones Producers: Nicolas Cage; Jeff Levine Keywords: Horror, Vampire An ambitious director's hiring of an actual vampire for a retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula produces disastrous results.
ABSTRACT German director F. W. Murnau, driven to produce the most realistic retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula to date, brings his cast and crew to Czechoslovakia in 1922 to shoot Nosferatu. Murnau strikes a deal in secret with Max Schreck, an actual vampire, to play the lead, promising the film's drug-addled co-star to him at production's end as "payment". All proceeds smoothly until Schreck -- described to the rest of the crew as a gifted character actor -- begins acting out in a bad way, fostering a bloodlust leading to a number of horrific production-related "accidents".
