Bernie (16-Jun-2011)
Director: Richard Linklater Writers: Skip Hollandsworth; Richard Linklater Keywords: Dark Comedy Black comedy dramatizes the real-life story of Texas millionaire Marjorie Nugent's 1996 murder.
ABSTRACT Adapted from the 1998 Texas Monthly article Midnight in the Garden of East Texas, Bernie follows its titular character, assistant mortician Bernie Tiede, as he strikes up a friendship with lonely elderly widow and millionaire Marjorie Nugent that eventually blossoms into a romance. Tired of Nugent's increasingly abusive demands, Tiede murders her, forcing local district attorney Danny Buck Davidson into an awkward situation where he must work to convict a man so popular in the community that it remains a tall task to swing public opinion against him even after he has confessed.
