Fort Apache (9-Mar-1948)
Director: John Ford Writer: Frank S. Nugent From story: Massacre by James Warner Bellah Musical Score: Richard Hageman Keywords: Western Lt. Col. Owen Thursday receives a new command at a frontier outpost; his captain, Kirby York, maintains reasonable relations with the local Indian chiefs, but Thursday's insensitivity to their plight threatens to upend any existing rapport and escalate into violence. Unusually sympathetic depiction of Indians. Excellent first entry in John Ford's "Cavalry Trilogy", after which are She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and Rio Grande (1950).
