Director: Drew Goddard Writers: Drew Goddard; Joss Whedon Keywords: Horror, Dark Comedy, Voyeurism, Zombie, Slasher Surrealist horror flick depicts five friends' battle with bizarre occurrences as they attempt to go on vacation in a remote cabin in the woods.
ABSTRACT Curt, Dana, Holden, Jules, and Marty, five college students going on vacation at a seemingly-deserted cabin in a remote outpost amidst the woods, soon find out that they are effectively prisoners in a real-life "ritual" simulation of sorts controlled by "technicians" Gary Sitterson and Steve Hadley. As time lumbers on, they find themselves subjected to a series of happenings ranging from the vaguely strange to the patently absurd, challenged to remain sane as that precious state of mind becomes harder and harder to maintain by the minute.
REVIEWS Review by rfleming (posted on 24-Sep-2012) The Cabin in the Woods pulls off a clever kind of vivisection: disassembling its own genre, inspecting its inner workings, and then reassembling them into a story which somehow remains satisfying. It's almost exactly the same approach as was used by Galaxy Quest -- a commentary on the soft sci-fi genre, yet at the same time reveling in it and never condescending toward the viewer. A die-hard horror buff might not enjoy this movie, for the same reason that a dedicated science fiction fan might be unimpressed with Galaxy Quest. But for the rest of us, The Cabin in the Woods succeeds as a horror movie while simultaneously deconstructing its milieu. Great fun.
