REVIEWS Review by anonymous (posted on 4-Jul-2005) The book was even more tortuous
than most of Christie's works. However, director Winner did a good job
in laying out the plot in an hour and about 45 minutes. The cast -
hasbeens and wanna-be's, laboured meritoriously and created some
moments of captivating cinema. The principals - Gielgud, Ustinov,
Bacall, etc - gave solid performances. The newcomers gave some patchy
performances - Hugh Brophy was smooth and commanding as the maitre d'.
Like to see more of him. Amber Bezer was, on the other hand,
extraordinarily clumsy - don't need to see any more of her. A lovely
performance is turned in by Jenny Seagrove - the camera loved her and
she is quietly beautiful throughout. Director Winner drew a great
effort from her - rumour has it that they were very close on and off
the set during the making of this slightly better than average Christie
movie.
