Crime drama follows four interconnected stories revolving around an ancient Chinese proverb.

ABSTRACT
A bank employee with little to live for bets his life savings on a horse race after overhearing of a "fix" in the outcome; he loses everything, owing a massive debt to a vicious crime boss. Pop star Trista severs ties with her manager after he loses control of her contract to the same criminal, while a doctor seeks a rare blood transfusion for the unrequited love of his life and a petty crook with visions of the future struggles with the images in his head. Four individuals' lives are inexorably linked to the same mobster, their hardships mirroring an ancient Chinese proverb.
