Trombonist Glenn Miller quits Ben Pollack's band and forms his own; the Glenn Miller Band rides the success of "Moonlight Serenade" through to a strong series of iconic swing hits. Joining the Army as an entertainer during WWII, Miller's plane was lost over the English channel in late 1944. Won an Oscar for Best Sound Recording; received additional nominations for Best Story and Screenplay, and Best Score of a Musical.
