REVIEWS Review by Wayne Davenport (posted on 17-Dec-2007) I loved this movie because it portrayed some of the most important of human attributes: simplicity, honesty, and the demand for doing a good job with whaever tools are at hand.
I was glad to see Poitier doing the role as he has the demeanor and sincerity to portray these characteristics. I am a bit of a sentimentalist, and I have loved Poitier's
acting since the 1955 movie "Blackboard Jungle". There are some similarities in the message presented. I also was impressed that Poitier finally showed some aging, albeit very graceful.
Review by Ulsterman (posted on 13-Mar-2005) Thank for very good movie which does much to encourage the single minded person to be himself/herself and to be contented thereby. There is too much pressure to conform to the idea of what other people would like "me" to be, so that "I" can be more popular and more comfortable with people amongst whom "I" have my living. The essential and underlying principle is that we do good and, again like Noah Dearborn, we learn to "serve" -- rather than just "to be served." Learning to put others first shows us the way to true contentment and a fulfilled existence. That way we can effectively put our talents to the proper use and make the lives of others and ourselves more enjoyable and enriched.
Noah Dearborn did all this for me and a whole lot more. Poitier at his thoughtful best -- even if the story line was a little far stretched at times. Thoughtful "feel good" movie -- just excellent. My occupation: property developer!
