REVIEWS

Review by anonymous (posted on 25-Jun-2006)

Roman Polanski is and always has been a superb director, suspense and horror are strong points for him...as with "Rosemary's Baby" (1969) starring Mia Farrow as the terrified expecting mother of Satan's anti christ offspring. His films undeniably delve into that underworld that we all have been curious about. The Ninth Gate is a film I did personally enjoy, however other viewers either did'nt care for, or did not understand the movie's ending. I must admit that the ending in question did come as a surprise to me also, but sometimes there are certain qualities to certain movies that must be appreciated for the fact that maybe it was'nt meant to be understood in the first place! The movie itself at times was listed as being a "horror" film. But,there are certain channels or advertisements that will list it as a "mystery/suspense" film, and in the case of the previous listing, I must agree that the ending fully served its' purpose, it indeed was a mystery that kept you guessing. Johnny Depp and Frank Langella, who both in my opinion are underrated actors were excellent in this film. This is a very genuine film, and a must see for all who are devilishy curious!
