Excalibur (10-Apr-1981)
Director: John Boorman Writers: Rospo Pallenberg; John Boorman From novel: Le Mort d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory Original Music Composed and Conducted by: Trevor Jones Producer: John Boorman Keywords: Fantasy/Action Distillation of the Arthurian romances, based on Malory's Le Mort d'Arthur. Arthur pulls the sword Excalibur from a stone, demonstrating that he is in fact the son of Pendragon and rightful heir to the throne of Camelot. Boorman effectively captures the dark side of the legends, but to provide more eye candy he uses the trappings of later eras, most particularly armor from the late middle ages. Received an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography, and a Hugo nomination for Best Dramatic Presentation.
