Impresario Boris Lermontov hires composer Julian Craster and dancer Victoria Page for his Ballet Lermontov, demanding their total commitment and attention to the company. After they fall in love with each other, he fires both young talents; they get married. Later he relents and rehires Victoria, but there is trouble. Excellent Technicolor cinematography. Powell calls this their first "composed film." Won Oscars for Best Set Decoration and Best Dramatic Score; received 3 additional nominations including Best Picture and Best Writing.
