Elsa's husband is Arthur Bannister, a criminal defense attorney. Arthur's associate George Grisby brings O'Hara into an insurance scam, where for $10,000 he will pretend to kill Grisby. He and Elsa plan to run off together once he receives his share. Confusing noir, partly so because of studio butchering.
